We are always keen to welcome visitors as well as new worshippers, but we are aware it is not always easy to find us. If you are making a special journey to see the church it is always best to contact us in advance on 020 7289 1818 or frhenry@btinternet.com The church is in Paddington, about a mile west-north-west of Paddington Station, right beside the Paddington Branch of the Grand Union Canal. The address of the church is Rowington Close, W2 5TF. DO NOT BE MISLED BY SIMON JENKINS! There is no such street as Woodchester Street: it disappeared in the slum clearances of the 1960s. Woodchester Square is nearby, and has fine views of the church, but there is no access from there. Nor are we St.Mary’s, Paddington: there is a Hospital of that name beside the Station, and a church of that name on Paddington Green, north-east of the Station. Neither are near us! From Paddington Station, leave the Station by the footbridge over the tracks at the western end (adjacent to the Hammersmith & City line) and follow the signs for Sheldon Square. This brings you to the Canal, which you then need to follow for about 12 minutes, keeping the Canal on your right. As you go around the Pool you will see the church spire ahead. Click here to see map The nearest tube stations are Royal Oak (Hammersmith & City) or Warwick Avenue (Bakerloo). From Royal Oak, turn right out of the station, walk to the dual-carriageway Harrow Road (under the Westway) and cross at the lights. About 20m to your left (by the bus stop) is the entrance to Westbourne Green; take the path across the Green, and the church is in front of you. From Warwick Avenue, take the left hand exit. At the top of the stairs, turn right (back on yourself). Turn left up Clifton Villas. Walk to the end, with the blank wall concealing the Canal in front of you. Turn right into Blomfield Road and at the corner you will see the footbridge over the Canal beside the Waterway pub, cross the Canal and the church is in front of you. The 36 and 18 buses stop adjacent to Royal Oak. 6, 46, 187 and 414 stop at Warwick Avenue Station. There is (for London) a fair amount of on-street parking on the Warwick Estate around the church, but on weekdays before 6.30pm it is all either residents-only, or pay-by-phone. On Sunday it is possible to park right outside the church. The entrance to the church is by the south-west door, at the end of Rowington Close, beside the School. In addition to service times, the church is normally open on Thursdays in school term, between 9.30 and 5.30. At other times it may be possible to open the church for you, but it is best to telephone first (020 7289 1818) to arrange a time when there will be someone available to show you round. Access to the Crypt Chapel is only possible by appointment. Unfortunately, at present there is no step-free access to the church. |
