Worship at St. Mary Magdalene’s

Services & Prayer

Our usual Sunday worship is the Parish Mass at 9.30am. Our Children’s Church go out to their activities in the Old Vestries during the opening hymn and then return at the Peace. On occasions we have a Family Mass for which the children stay in church and take part in leading the service. We sing the Gregory Murray Folk Mass with both modern and traditional hymns from a variety of sources, and while our style is definitely Anglo-Catholic, with a dignified ceremonial, we aim for our worship to be both relaxed and easy for newcomers to come to terms with. We try to worship God in the beauty of holiness and in the language of our people.

An annual feature of worship at St.Mary Mags is the High Mass on All Souls’ Day, where we are joined by the St.Mary Magdalene Music Society, with their Orchestra and Choir, together with the boys of Sussex House School Choir, in the liturgical performance of a French 19th century Requiem Mass. This tradition goes back more than 30 years, to when Maurice Durufle was associated with the church.
